2020 Global Young Scientists Summit, Singapore

The next annual Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) is taking place in Singapore 14–17 January 2020. Each year, about 280 international young scientists engage closely with peers and invited speakers to discuss key areas of science and research, technology innovation and society, and potential solutions to global challenges. The summit is multi-disciplinary, covering topics relevant to chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, computer science and engineering. Invited speakers are globally recognised scientific leaders, including recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize, and the Turing Award. Participants take part in lectures, plenary sessions and panel discussions plus have the opportunity to interact with speakers and each other in informal small group sessions.

Participation is through nominated selection. Oxford has been invited to nominate up to five ‘young scientists and researchers’ (at Oxford these will be PhD students and/or post-docs) as potential participants to attend the GYSS in 2020.  Our nominations will be determined through the Oxford University coordinated bid process. The GYSS organisers stipulate that nominees should be 35 years old or below (at the time of the summit), drawn from ‘any field of Science & Technology’ (which they define as: chemistry, physics, engineering, computer science, mathematics, and related disciplines). Note that the final attendance list is selected by the GYSS organising committee from institutional nominations.

Singapore will provide the hospitality for the participants in Singapore, which will include accommodation, summit conference costs, social activities, meals and local transportation between accommodation, conference sites and social activities. Oxford departments who put forward nominees must meet their travel expenses to and from Singapore.
