Research Services and Research Accounts work with colleagues in the academic divisions and departments, Oxford University Innovation and University Administration and Services (UAS) to provide comprehensive support to researchers across the research lifecycle.

Research Services is a department of UAS. Our responsibilities include:

Research funding and contracts

  • comprehensive research funding support
  • research contracts
  • strategic research development, major projects and ventures
  • funder and business engagement
  • funding assurance and due diligence
  • research funding systems and reporting

Research governance, ethics and assurance

  • support, expertise and training for research involving human participants and use of human tissue and personal data
  • compliance and assurance with internal and external policy, standards and regulatory frameworks
  • advice and support on submissions to research ethics committees
  • risk management advice and research insurance services

Innovation and engagement

  • innovation and knowledge exchange policy, strategy and support
  • public and societal engagement with research
  • due diligence for exploitation of research outputs and IP rights management 
  • enterprise and entrepreneurship
  • regional engagement
  • impact tracking, planning and evaluation

Research strategy and policy

  • institutional research strategy
  • research evaluation, insight and information
  • external research and innovation policy engagement
  • promoting research integrity
  • external research evaluation exercises (including REF)

Research Services is headed by Dr Stephen Conway and organised into four business teams and a supporting team.
 

 

Research Accounts is part of the Finance Division. Our main responsibilities include:

  • raising claims, invoices and statements to research customers and for managing research debt
  • all the internal and external reporting on the financial aspects of research,
  • co-ordinating financial assurance requirements, including review and audit undertaken by research customers
  • the set-up and amendment of research awards on the projects module of Oracle Financials
  • maintaining the integrity of research finance information held in the projects module
  • assisting departments with the ongoing requirements of financial management of research awards

Research Accounts works closely with departmental finance officers and administrators, and with Research Services.

Research Accounts is split into three teams that work closely together:

  • Operations
  • Accounting and Development
  • Assurance

Stephen Barker is the Head of Research Accounts, supported by senior managers co-ordinating each of these activities: Klajdia Bullari, Marius Apetrei and Samuel Hannis.
