Mental Health Research UK: PhD Competition 2026

Mental Health Research UK (MHRUK) is running a PhD Scholarship competition.

MHRUK is offering three scholarship opportunities:

  • Ivan Baines PhD scholarship: Optimising pharmacotherapy in the treatment of young people experiencing psychosis
  • John Grace QC PhD scholarship: Transdiagnostic approaches to schizophrenia and related conditions
  • Clair Chilvers PhD scholarship: Epidemiology to impact mental health

For each scholarship, MHRUK will provide four years of funding from September 2026.  Further information, including application guidelines and forms, can be found on MHRUK’s website. The competition deadline is 30 May 2025.

MHRUK has capped application numbers for this competition, meaning that Oxford can only submit one application for each of the three scholarships. Therefore, a coordinated process is being run by the Medical Sciences Division to select the applications that will be put forward.

To apply to Oxford’s coordinated process, please complete the relevant MHRUK application form for the scholarship that you would like to apply for. The application forms can be downloaded from MHRUK’s website. The completed application form should be submitted to Christopher Higham (Christopher.higham@medsci.ox.ac.uk) at the Medical Sciences Division Graduate School by 12.00pm on Tuesday 20 May 2025.

Please contact Christopher Higham (Christopher.higham@medsci.ox.ac.uk) if you have queries about this competition or Oxford’s coordinated process.
