The Health Research Authority and the UK health departments in Northern Ireland, Scotland and Wales have published revised governance arrangements for research ethics committees. The updated policy document sets out when review by a research ethics committee (REC) is required.
Following public consultation by the Human Tissue Authority, research involving human DNA extracted from acellular material is now included for the first time. This new requirement will be implemented from 17 September 2018: it will not apply retrospectively.
If you have questions as to whether this change has implications for your research, please contact the Clinical Trials and Research Governance team.
Applications for NHS Research Ethics Committee review should be submitted to CTRG for sponsorship according to the usual process.
