Open Access Oxford Project Group

Open Access Oxford is a collaborative project involving Research Services, the Bodleian Libraries, IT Services, OUP and the Academic Divisions.

The Project Group is where both the service providers of the Open Access Service and the consumers of this service are represented. Furthermore, the Project Group aims to provide oversight and coordination on all matters Open Access, and to advise colleagues on priorities and key issues. The Project Group is accountable to the Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Research) and Research & Innovation Committee.

1. To ensure REF Open Access policy implementation and compliance:

a. Advice on all elements of the Act on Acceptance campaign and maintenance of its profile across the University
b. Departments and divisions have the tools and training to monitor, in the first instance, engagement with the policy and in time, compliance with the policy
c. Adopt approach to recording exceptions to the policy
d. University level monitoring of engagement and compliance
e. List of OA contacts in departments and divisions are up to date

2. Monitoring changing sponsor requirements and helping researchers to meet these, keeping a watching brief on OA policies of the top 15 funders at Oxford, and providing advice on changing requirements, ways to comply, sources of funding

3. To advise the OA IT Programme Board on the system and related IT requirements of the Open Access service, eg Symplectic Elements and the Oxford Research Archive (ORA) or their replacements, their performance and enhancements, having regard for recommendations from the Open Access Priority Group and the Symplectic Elements User Forum

4. To monitor and advise on compliance with UKRI’s and COAF’s OA policies

5. To advise on information and training for researchers and administrative staff, eg Bodleian iSkills training sessions; other training; OAO website; subject librarian support services

6. To undertake advocacy and influence funders’ OA policies, including Research England, UKRI and COAF
